sixad and sixpairĮdit: Apparently and according to my tests, sixad automatically starts at the boot, but doesn't work at all when that happens, having to stop it an re-start it to make it to work. Because of that, you need to use the command line-based applications, i.e. Note: as far as I can tell, the GUI based application is no longer useful, at least to detect and connect controllers through Bluetooth. Sudo apt-key adv -keyserver -recv-keys 736E4F0B To do so, execute the following: sudo add-apt-repository "deb vivid main" On Ubuntu 15.10/16.04 and Linux Mint 18, you can still use the QtSixA PPA, but specifying "vivid" as the Ubuntu version (15.04), since that was the last officially supported version.

There is nothing to install anymore on recent versions of Ubuntu, as Dualshock 3 (and 4 I believe) is natively supported by the Kernel, in both USB and Bluetooth.
You can test the functionality of your controller through Jstest-gtk (install: sudo apt-get install jstest-gtk)

I don't know how to connect the controller via bluetooth to your computer (if you even have a bluetooth receiver), so this answer focusses on usb connection. This is supplied with a PS3 device (it is the primary way to charge the controller). So, what you need to do is the change your PLAYSTATION(R)3 Controller into a HID compliant device. You are able to connect the controller to the pc via usb cable. It should show up under Human Interface Devices, HID for short. The reason SCPtoolkit could not detect my PLAYSTATION(R)3 Controller was because the controller showed up under the wrong tab in the device manager. But, I am pretty sure I uninstalled that correctly. I did have DS3 tools installed before and I've heard that might cause problems. When I plug it in I get the message "Dualshock 3 plugged in via usb" and this error message.
Have to open scp server ps3 controller drivers#
I can't find any of the drivers I need in the device manager, so that worries me a little. The reason I am unsure is because the official download site prompt me to download Microsoft xbox 360 accessories. It does tell me to download and install the xbox 360 game controller drivers. My problem is that when I try to install the drivers by running SCPtoolkit driver.exe it won't detect my PS3 controller. I am not sure if this is the correct subreddit to post this to, but it doesn't appear SCPtoolkit has their own subreddit.
